The Rainbow in Genesis

In Genesis, the word is not actually rainbow, it is simply bow. Throughout the OT, the word is always referring to only one thing. It is the instrument of war that God says He holds and He points at His enemies. He points it at the hearts of the wicked. When God says, He is going to hang His bow on the cloud. It means that He is putting away His instrument of warfare and He says that He will no longer destroy the earth with a flood.

It is interesting to notice, what way does the bow hang when you look at the sky after a storm has passed through?It is actually pointing up. While this part is not in the text, it is in the narrative of the Bible. If you were to put a string across that bow and you were to put an arrow on that bow and fire it. Which direction would fly? It would fly up to heaven where God is.

The next time you find God pouring out His wrath for the sin of the entire world is when He floods the cross of Calvary with His wrath to satisfy eternal justice and take care of the sins of the world when He Himself receives that wrath

Quote of the week

Let no one grieve at his poverty,
   for the universal kingdom has been revealed.
Let no one mourn that he has fallen again and again;
   for forgiveness has risen from the grave.
Let no one fear death, for the Death of our Savior has set us free.
   He has destroyed it by enduring it.

Another year

We sang this hymn in church the first Sunday of this year. It puts everything in perspective - all things done for the glory of God!

Another year is dawning, dear Father, let it be
In working or in waiting, another year with Thee.
Another year of progress, another year of praise,
Another year of proving Thy presence all the days.

Another year of mercies, of faithfulness and grace,
Another year of gladness in the shining of Thy face;
Another year of leaning upon Thy loving breast;
Another year of trusting, of quiet, happy rest.

Another year of service, of witness for Thy love,
Another year of training for holier work above.
Another year is dawning, dear Father, let it be
On earth, or else in Heaven, another year for Thee.
